Only 66 km from Alicante and 57 km from Murcia is Pilar de la Horadada where you can find the benefits of all environments. The sun to enjoy the holiday, the beaches to experience the Mediterranean and the mountains to explore the hiking trails are only a part of the wide range of options, which are best discovered with the family.
Sea, mountain and sun bless Pilar de la Horadada with elements that create a unique atmosphere. The Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of 18ºC offers us sunny days and gentle breezes most days of the year.
At the sea
Under these conditions, satisfaction at the beach is more than guaranteed. There is more than 4 km of coastline offering quite a lot of options to choose the beach that fulfils our requirements. There are broad beaches of fine white sand and small coves you can find hidden between cliffs which push out into the sea.
In any case, we can rest assured, because the beaches are quite safe for our children, because there are no sudden drops or unevenness. So with proper supervision, we can let them enjoy a quiet swim. Furthermore, the transparency and visibility of the water invites the sport diving in search of the biodiversity of the seabed.
The purity of the beaches of Pilar de la Horadada is the reason for the blue flag granted by the EC, which guarantees peaceful enjoyment in a healthy environment.
In the mountains
The interior of Pilar de la Horadada, in contrast with the beaches, offers nice trips and routes in the areas of the Mediterranean mountains or in the Sierra de Escalona, all within the vicinity of the town. In no time, we can move from the city to the natural environment, to enjoy all the features it offers.
The signposted routes in the riverbed of the Río Seco are worth mentioning. This watershed or dry riverbed is about 19 km long and offers two signposted routes: One of about 4 km long and a second of about 10 km. Both of them are suitable for all levels of hikers. It goes from the natural area of Pinar de Campoverde to the river mouth at the Mil Palmeras beach.
Under the sun
Thanks to the more than 320 sunny days a year, Pîlar de la Horadada is perfect to get to know the history, the holidays and the traditions of the place. You can see finds from the Iberian, Romans and Arabs and many them are on exposition in the Museo Municipal Gratiniano Baches.
The vicissitudes of history left very interesting traces in the town, such as the coastal towers which were built to alert of the presence of pirates. The Torre costera de la Horadada, from the 16th century, is a very good example.
During our visit to Pilar de la Horadada we shouldn’t miss a visit to the church Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Pilar with its 19th century belfry, which is worshiped with offerings and parades during the festivities of Nuestra Señora del Pilar.
The entire population of Pilar de la Horadada takes part in the celebrations. The tradition and the popular fervor is felt in the streets and squares and throughout the year craft markets, cultural and sporting events, fairs, gastronomic days are organized to fill a comprehensive calendar of festivities.
Also noteworthy is the parade of floats, declared local attraction, which is celebrated in the month of October during the celebrations in the city.
